4. Elbows and Knees
Dark elbows and knees are normally caused by dry skin or pressure—but rapid, unexplained darkening can sometimes accompany autoimmune or endocrine disorders.
5. Skin Folds (Under the Breasts, Belly Folds, or Groin)
Any skin fold can darken from moisture, friction, or fungal infections.
But if the darkening becomes widespread, textured, or appears suddenly, it may reflect changes in blood sugar or hormones.
Unusual pigmentation in folds deserves a medical look—especially if it appears quickly.
⚠️ Important Note: Dark Skin Patches Are Not a Diagnosis of Cancer
Darkening of the skin—called hyperpigmentation—is extremely common and often harmless.
However, what does require medical attention is:
sudden or fast-spreading discoloration
dark patches with unusual texture
patches accompanied by weight loss, fatigue, or other symptoms
Early evaluation is always better than late detection.
